What Counts as a Product Type?

We group product types by material and supplier, not by SKU, design variation, or color. If multiple items share the same core materials and are produced by the same manufacturer, they’re treated as one product type.

Example:

You sell a set of gold-plated earrings in three different shapes: hoops, studs, and drops, all made from the same base metal, plated with the same gold finish, and sourced from the same supplier. That’s one product type.

If you introduce a similar set of earrings made from sterling silver or purchase from a different supplier, that would count as a second product type, even if the styles are the same.

Key rule: If the material or supplier changes, it’s a different product type.

6. Online Marketplace Registration

If you operate an online marketplace in the EU Market, you are required by law to register your business with the Safety Gate Portal. Registration ensures compliance with EU regulations and facilitates communication with national market surveillance authorities. We handle your registration for you.

7. Market Surveillance Support

If an EU authority contacts us about your product, we respond on your behalf. There’s no extra charge unless further technical work or legal involvement is required — and we’ll always check with you first.
